Talk about an entire week of empowerment and positivity (this is what I call a really good week in the news world). From a television show to an unlikely entrepreneur and a bachelorette party, this week’s common thread is very clearly all about community.

Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman have created Making It – a GoldieBlox DIY television show fantasy comes to life

If you haven’t had the chance to watch Making It, stop what you are doing right now and watch the first episode. I promise that you will not regret it. It’s a little shocking that this is really the first DIY show out there. Each week the craft enthusiasts compete against each other to win badges (Pawnee goddesses style) and claim the title Master Maker. This is basically the DIY version of The Great British Baking Show. They create projects from terrariums to quilts to 3D representations of your inner spirit animal and more. The chemistry between Poehler and Offerman is hilarious and encouraging – they are there to help the makers and, even better, learn. The entire purpose of the show is to celebrate makers and share their talents with the world, whether they are YouTube stars or grandmothers, each maker is part of the craft tribe and dreaming big is the only thing that matters. Jessica Honegger built a $17 million global business through community, risks, and female empowerment

The fundraiser quickly turned into one of the fastest growing companies in America in 2015 turning Honegger into an entrepreneur faster than she ever imagined. Here’s the best part of the story – not only is Honegger an unlikely female entrepreneur who bootstrapped a company, BUT that company’s purpose is to invest in women’s economic empowerment and help empower women to create sustainable income while overcoming stigmas, pulling themselves out of poverty, and supporting each other unconditionally. This is definitely a company that GoldieBlox stands behind… so how likely is it that I can convince my office that I need adorable jewelry to purchase some for the sake of research? Forbes

Say goodbye to ‘bride tribe’ T-shirts and say hello to a warrior-themed bachelorette party

Alex Pinkerton decided she wanted her bachelorette party to be different and make a statement in response to the current political climate, so she ditched the matching tanks and swimsuits and traded them in for a warrior-themed bachelorette party. Women need to lift each other up and be playing for the same team in order to stay sane in this current culture, and that’s exactly what these warrior outfits represent. PLUS not only did she think of a theme that shows how strong and supportive a group of women can be, but a lot of the costumes were crafted by the ladies themselves, making them a group of makers too. The next time a friend suggests themes for a bachelorette party (or any party for that matter) this is definitely at the top of my list. HuffPost
